Ted: 2012

Ted is about a stuffed teddy bear that comes to life when a young boy wishes for a friend. The boy and his bear are now shown as adults, and have adventures together.

This film is directed by Seth McFarlane, it stars Seth McFarlane as Ted, and it shows. This movie has all of the McFarlane markers on it. Whenever you watch his works, you know your film isn't going to be accepted by everyone, have outrageous over-exaggerated jokes and contain a spontaneous fight sequence.

Ted is essentially a feature length Family Guy episode. It features cameos, and spoofs of other popular films.

I absolutely love the first 90 minutes of Ted. The human characters played by Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis are very good, and the scenes are hilarious. Ted as a character is awesome, he is the driving force of the movie, and it works brilliantly.

My one flaw is the last twenty minutes, the focus shifts to a less funny plot with a car chase and while good, the scenes doesn't have a lot of the jokes that the first 90 minutes had.

But still, I loved Ted and can't wait to see Ted 2!!!

Jurassic World

The 4th Jurassic movie...

We now have a real fully functioning theme park, but a dinosaur escapes and has to be stopped. The film has the same basic structure of the previous films, a company invests in dinosaurs, they escape and have to be caught.

I have seen this twice now and had very similar thoughts each time. See, I think this is a really good movie that got better for me on a second viewing, but I think that there is something missing. I feel like it is not one thing, and I can't quite pinpoint it. I guess that it is the novelty of the ideas. When you have an awesome first movie, the sequels have to compete with unfair expectations.

Jurassic Park

Jurassic Park is the first film in the Jurassic franchise. Without this film, there would not be three sequels to speak off. First off, this is the best film in the series by far. This movie did something that we hadn't seen before, and I think hasn't been fully imitated since. Before this, dinosaurs were always cartoonish, they were always seen in animated cartoons in the past. We always imagined what these creatures were like, and Jurassic Park showed us exactly what dinosaurs are.

This movie is the first time that the dinosaurs behaved like living creatures. Combine that with a great theme and the structure of an excellent source novel by Crichton and you have an excellent film.

Entourage: The Movie

This review is for the film, not the TV show. I have not seen the TV show.

Basically what this movie is about is a movie producer and his friend trying to get a movie that they loved to make made. Their friends help them get this film made and celebrities cameo throughout.

In my opinion, the most entertaining aspect of this film is the cameos because there is really no film here. Scenes are made just to have a cameo, and while that hurts the grade that I can give this, it still was fun to see different actors have 5 seconds in this movie.

But aside from that, there just isn't alot there to review.

My grade is: C for the Cameos.

San Andreas

A massive earthquake hits California: the basic plot of this movie.

Wow!!! This movie is not a movie that is trying to win any awards or any art notices. This movie is just trying to entertain, and it does that very well.

Easily Dwayne Johnson's best movie!

Tomorrowland

This film should be re-titled: Dreams and Destines: A college thesis by George Clooney. The basic plot is that the world's smartest and bravest dreamers created a world called Tomorrowland  and mankind has to find it to survive the end of the world.

All this movie is is Brad Bird directing awesome visuals with George Clooney teaching us about dreams and goals.

Every other performance is overshadowed by this lecture.

Not worth seeing a clip of this film. Really hoped it would be a better movie.

Ex Machina

Ex Machina is a film that has a contained simple plot: A computer programmer wins a lottery contest to be able to test the first artificial intelligence. The test is whether or not this programmer can tell whether he is interacting with something artificial. Of course, this test leads to consequences.

This movie is one of the best of the year so far in my opinion. The movie doesn't have a lot of movement and action, but it certainly has strong plot points. When a movie doesn't have explosions and stunts, it needs an engaging idea to build its story around, This is one of the best plots of the year, and so I have no choice but to give it a:

B+
