Insight on my Grades

I review as many movies as I can and give each film a grade. This grade is reflective of my overall thoughts about the movie. An A or above means that I really had a great time watching the film. B scores mean that the film was really good. In some cases, it even means that I loved the film. Ted 2 is one of these scores. I loved Ted 2. I thought it did exactly what it promised: it made me laugh. However, I'll admit that a film like American Sniper was a better quality film, It was a higher level film than Ted.

An A+ doesn't mean that the movie is my favorite of the year. I gave American Sniper an A+ and Fury Road a lower score, but I feel Fury Road is a more entertaining movie. Why did I give Sniper an A+? Sniper set out to be a military biography, and it did it wonderfully.

In short, if you try to be a certain genre of movie, and you excel at that category of movie, you will be in consideration for an A grade or even an A+

Hope that makes my grading system simpler....

Terminator: Genisys

Genisys follows essentially the same basic format as 1984's Terminatior, in which a cyborg is sent back to hunt down Sarah Connor. Kyle Reese is sent to protect Sarah Connor. In this film, Reese is sent back, but finds Connor already aware of Skynet.

The Terminator franchise is one of my favorite series of all time because of Arnold's Terminator, and he is just as awesome in this new timeline as before.

Is this film as good as T1 or T2? No, but that is because of unfair expectations. Nothing will ever be as good as Cameron's direction, but as its own story, Genisys is solid. It holds its own, and that is a good thing.

Ted 2

Plot: Ted has to prove that he is a human in a court of law to gain the same basic rights as humans.

Ted 2 is essentially the same as Ted: Seth McFarlane trademarks are filled in this movie. I loved the first Ted, as I said in my previous review, and so I was eagerly waiting to see if this movie would be as consistently hilarious as the last one, and....

Ted 2 is one of the best comedy sequels of the year, because it understands what it is. This series is not meant to win  any awards, it is meant to be entertaining, and that is exactly what Ted 2 is.

I loved Ted 2!! Definitely seeing it again and picking up the Blu-Ray to own as soon as it comes out.

Ted: 2012

Ted is about a stuffed teddy bear that comes to life when a young boy wishes for a friend. The boy and his bear are now shown as adults, and have adventures together.

This film is directed by Seth McFarlane, it stars Seth McFarlane as Ted, and it shows. This movie has all of the McFarlane markers on it. Whenever you watch his works, you know your film isn't going to be accepted by everyone, have outrageous over-exaggerated jokes and contain a spontaneous fight sequence.

Ted is essentially a feature length Family Guy episode. It features cameos, and spoofs of other popular films.

I absolutely love the first 90 minutes of Ted. The human characters played by Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis are very good, and the scenes are hilarious. Ted as a character is awesome, he is the driving force of the movie, and it works brilliantly.

My one flaw is the last twenty minutes, the focus shifts to a less funny plot with a car chase and while good, the scenes doesn't have a lot of the jokes that the first 90 minutes had.

But still, I loved Ted and can't wait to see Ted 2!!!

Jurassic World

The 4th Jurassic movie...

We now have a real fully functioning theme park, but a dinosaur escapes and has to be stopped. The film has the same basic structure of the previous films, a company invests in dinosaurs, they escape and have to be caught.

I have seen this twice now and had very similar thoughts each time. See, I think this is a really good movie that got better for me on a second viewing, but I think that there is something missing. I feel like it is not one thing, and I can't quite pinpoint it. I guess that it is the novelty of the ideas. When you have an awesome first movie, the sequels have to compete with unfair expectations.

Grade: B-

Jurassic Park

Jurassic Park is the first film in the Jurassic franchise. Without this film, there would not be three sequels to speak off. First off, this is the best film in the series by far. This movie did something that we hadn't seen before, and I think hasn't been fully imitated since. Before this, dinosaurs were always cartoonish, they were always seen in animated cartoons in the past. We always imagined what these creatures were like, and Jurassic Park showed us exactly what dinosaurs are.

This movie is the first time that the dinosaurs behaved like living creatures. Combine that with a great theme and the structure of an excellent source novel by Crichton and you have an excellent film.

Entourage: The Movie

This review is for the film, not the TV show. I have not seen the TV show.

Basically what this movie is about is a movie producer and his friend trying to get a movie that they loved to make made. Their friends help them get this film made and celebrities cameo throughout.

In my opinion, the most entertaining aspect of this film is the cameos because there is really no film here. Scenes are made just to have a cameo, and while that hurts the grade that I can give this, it still was fun to see different actors have 5 seconds in this movie.

But aside from that, there just isn't alot there to review.

My grade is: C for the Cameos.
